I feel like imabout to be in trouble at work. But see, it isn't my fault. Or maybe it is. The thing that's tricky about me is that people like to talk to me. I'm approachable and friendly, which is good. But three times now, I have been drawn into conversations about problems people have with other teachers.
First time around, it was a teacher who is now gone. The parents asked to meet with me ahead of meeting with that teacher so they could understand something about their daughter's strengths and weaknesses. Tried to back out of this but they insisted. They were gracious enough not to ask me direct questions about the other teacher, so I skated.
Second time around, it was two students who asked me about another teacher. Their complaint sounded legit, so I took it to a couple of other folks, just to bounce it off another sounding board. They took it up from there. And you know, it was a legit complaint and the kids were getting nowhere on their own.
Third verse...same as the first except this mom told me she wanted to meet about her daughter's paper before meeting with the headmaster tomorrow. I agreed. When we got their, she wanted to discuss another teacher.
Um. Awkward.
Meanwhile, I do this this mother has a legit complaint, so I emailed the headmaster. The thing is, I would sort of like not to be in the middle of this stuff seeing as how I have no authority here. I feel like I'm in the middle of things that are not my business.
Can I help it if people like to talk to me?

Nah, I have the same problem. I've often thought about putting the "Psychological Help $.05" on my office door. :)
